About Us

Polanco-Mills Woodwork is a full service architectural millworking firm known for exceptional craftsmanship and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The principals, Juan Polanco and Richard Mills, bring over 60 years of combined experience to the company. Mr. Polanco’s cabinet and furniture making expertise and Mr. Mill’s acute design sensibility and passion for fine detailing provide a powerful resource for clients seeking creative solutions. Both principals maintain direct involvement in every project to assure that the highest standards are always met.

Juan Polanco. began his cabinetmaking career at the tender age of eleven in the Dominican Republic, making furniture by hand with rudimentary tools. He ran his own shop employing workers twice his age. At the age of 18 he moved to the United States, earned a degree, and was hired as a helper for Goose Hollow Millwork where he quickly rose through the ranks to become the shop’s “go-to guy.”

Richard Mills graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1973, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. He moved to New York City in 1975, continuing his studies at the Art Student’s League and the School of Visual Arts. In 1980, he was the recipient of the Edward G. McDowell Travel Scholarship – one year of study, travel and painting in Europe. After returning to New York in 1981, Richard became a member of the Board of Control at the Art Student’s League and over the next few years exhibited his paintings in New York, Chicago, and Mississippi. During this period Richard also designed and built furniture out of his studio on Great Jones Street in lower Manhattan.

In 1998, Richard and Juan formed Polanco-Mills Woodwork.
